I was at the barbershop today. It’s owned by these Korean ladies I think. Anyway she’s cutting my hair and I bet this happens to many of you asian guys out there….
She asks me “Where are you from?”, and you need to think for a second. Why? You don’t know whether he/she means where you live or what ethnicity are you. Ahh!…I guessed and just said, “I’m Chinese”….I guess I was right since she replied, “We are korean”.
In some cases, when I respond the other way and say where I actually live, sometimes I get this response (usually from a non-asian person, and more so Caucasians):
“…You know what I mean.” - (With an attitude.)

…What the fuck! How the hell should I know that you meant ethnicity?! I guess it’s like what you all said in the previous post, Asians are more exclusive than other races in America, have several misunderstandings, and are misrepresented. Sorry…I get a little irritated when someone responds similar to above. I swear I hear “You know what (the fuck) I mean(!)” instead. I wonder if this ever happens to African-Americans and other races. Good thing this doesn’t happen all the time, I’d be an angry asian man.
Do you guys ever need a second to figure out what the person is asking or have any similar incidents?
