Ok, so the term “Gourmet Instant Noodles” might be an oxymoron…but man, this stuff is good! I remember back in my undergrad days I would eat literally boxes (they come in 20 packs if I remember correctly) of these. Ok…so these noodles might not be that healthy, but they sure were cheap, easy to make, and delicious.

Made by Korean company, Nong Shim, Shin Ramyun is definitely a step up compared to your usual instant noodles (i.e. Maruchan, Nissin, etc.). If you have experienced Korean cuisine before, you know they like to bring in the heat, and Shin Ramyun definitely has a spicy kick to it…I remember my first couple of times eating Shin Ramyun using only half of the spice packet! It also comes with a small packet of dehydrated vegetables which adds a touch of class in my book. The noodles are of higher quality than the typical instant noodles as well, which you can taste…although I’m not sure what ingredients are used for Shin Ramyun (Yea…it’s weird, eating boxes of this stuff and not really looking at the back for the ingredients…). Another plus in my books is that Shin Ramyun serves a larger portion compared to the other instant noodles. Wow! Although it’s not that nutritious itself, you can add some fresh vegetables, meat, seafood, and/or other things to make it a well-rounded meal. The spices will blend in well with your additions. Shin Ramyun can be found in grocery and convenience stores. If that fails, you can always find them online. If you like some spicy food, on a budget, and/or not that great of a cook, I’d highly recommend picking some of these up!

Feb 21st, 2008 at 5:49 pmYeah they really are the gourmet version without a doubt! But you know you can’t fully get away from the comfort of a .99 noodle pack. Too many fond memories
