Be sure to check out Goob’s photos on the front page of Goofy Asians. Expect a lot of Miss Universe pictures which is explained below, haha. Great pics, definitely an improvement over my little “point and shoot” pictures!
Opening Ceremony
As I mentioned before (here), the National Cherry Blossom Festival started this past weekend. Goob and I got a chance to get in on the festivities (Maybe he’ll write his on article about “sometime“). It was pretty fun and we got to see a lot cool performances before and during the ceremony commencement. Some of the most notable performances were the Future Shock group (associated with Culture Shock, which is associated with Jabbawockeez!), the taiko group, and the martial arts demonstration (sorry forgot name of the group). There were also arts and craft workshops going on too (mostly geared towards the kids though, lol).
The actual ceremony started with a few musical performances followed by various dignitaries from Japan and U.S. a like which came up to the performance stage to give speeches regarding the festival…unfortunately, either the sound system or the speakers, or a little of both, caused most of the speeches to be barely audible.
The beautiful Riyo Mori, aka Miss Universe, also came up to stage to talk a bit as well as to introduce the goodwill ambassadors (read more about them here) who spoke a few words each themselves. I was suppose to get an interview with one of them (Erika Spencer-Iwai, person in main view), but haven’t been able to catch her when she had free time….d’oh! Also, we were suppose to get more shots of the goodwill ambassadors but, ummm somebody *cough*Goob*cough* was to focused on Miss Universe.
Goob and Miss Universe’s Story
Our very own Goofy Asians photographer, Goob, taking some many shots of Miss Universe from the 2nd floor. This is to be the start of Goob’s “adventure”.
This guy, lol…Goob was quick as a fox to notice a seat was suddenly vacant next to Miss Universe. Lucky! We see him actually like a typical Goofy Asian in the pic on the left. On the right pic they’re actually discussing something about the brochure! hahaha…way to go Goobert! See if you can spot them for some goofy asian points.
And after the ceremony, a nice picture of them two posing…with Goob being unsure whether he should touch her or not, lol (picture got a little messed up when I took it, so I made it black and white to reduce my photography noobness).
Kite Event and Cherry Blossom Outing

So during the middle of the day, we decided to head down to the tidal basin and Washington monument area to catch the Kite event and look at some cherry blossoms. As you can see, the kite event was crazy! It was pretty cool seeing hundreds of kites in the sky all across that area. Cherry blossoms were in peak bloom that day, so they were awesome to look at.
So this concludes my very brief synopsis of the first day of the National Cherry Blossom Festival. I’m planning to goto D.C. for it again to cover the Sakura Matsuri Street Festival and National Cherry Blossom Fesitval Parade in April 12th. Expect a post for that!
Again, make sure to check out Goob’s photos at the front page on Goofy Asians with his four figures dollar camera!
