A Kid’s Curiosity: Feeling Like an Alien…Go and Brush Your Tentacles Off

So one day I’m doing my groceries. I’m going down the frozen aisle and past by a mother and her kid. As I’m looking around the aisle, I can’t help but notice that the little girl (about 5 to 7 years old) kept staring at me and I’m not talking about the 5-10 second glance. No, I’m talking about the “staring at you until you are completely out of sight” look.
I swear, if I didn’t goto the next aisle, and the frozen aisle was a mile long, she would still be staring at me. This isn’t just an isolated incident either and has happened quite of few times for me. Allow this happened a couple of weeks ago, I can still vividly remember her facial expression. It was the face of fascination and not the “you look weird!” face…although I guess that would still count as you being fascinating.

At first I was a bit annoyed just being stared at in general, but then I became fascinated myself at the thought of being something (or in my case, someone) completely out of the ordinary. Just imagining normal old me being someone totally out of this world at least to this little girl. I felt like an alien…yet a representative of all Asians (even though I’m far from it)! After that thought kicked in, I immediately made sure I wasn’t giving a bad impression and being self-conscious about everything!
I guess it just goes to show that you never know when someone will come across you and be fascinated at what you do or who you are. We all have become captivated by something or someone a couple of times in our lives. In this regard, one should always try to “give it their all” and provide a great impression.
